Curriculum Vitae
Claudio Zilio is a Mechanical Engineer. He is full professor at the University of Padova, where he teaches the course of “Applied thermodynamics” and “Thermal systems”. He is the Secretary of commission B2 (Refrigerating equipment) of the International Institute of Refrigeration. He has been involved with several European research projects, primarily concerning Refrigeration Technology and Heat Transfer and he is the author or co-author of more than 160 papers (more than 80 are available in Scopus or Web of Science) dealing with topics such as thermodynamics of inverse cycles, heat transfer, both theoretical and technological aspects, energy applications related to HVAC of buildings, refrigeration for foodstuff preservation, and refrigerating equipments. He is a member of the Editorial Board of ASHRAE Science and technology for the Building Environment journal.

Research areas
Currently, he is involved in analytical and experimental studies on refrigerating machines with particular emphasis on energy savings and on environmental protection/preservation. In particular:
 Sustainability with perspective refrigerants.
 Advanced transcritical refrigeration systems and heat pumps operating with carbon dioxide.
 Innovation in environmental control systems and thermal control in commercial aircrafts and helicopters.
 Energetic optimization of cold storages and food preservation issues.
 Thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of innovative environmentally friendly refrigerants.
 Thermophysical properties of nanofluids.
 Condensation and boiling of refrigerants inside smooth and microfin tubes of “small” diameter.
 Condensation and boiling of refrigerants inside plate heat exchangers.
 Heat transfer and pressure drop with stochastic open cells metallic foams.
 Innovative strategies for energy consumption reduction in domestic appliances.
