Research activity
The research activity is conducted primarily in the area of domestic animal behaviour and can be divided in four main research lines:
1) The effects of aging on cognition (attention, spatial learning and memory), emotion (dog-owner
attachment), the endocrine system (cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone), the immune system (leucocyte
populations) in dogs;
2) mechanisms of dogs visual perception and processing (global/local processing of hierarchical images,
discrimination of human faces, detection and prediction of motion);
3) effects of sex on dogs cognition (spatial cognition, processing of motion, impulsivity)
4) ethology applied to the pet-human relationship (development and validation of procedures for the
behavioral assessment and selection of pet therapy dogs' behavior, analysis of dog's normal and problematic
behavior and of the public perception of dogs in urban areas, effects of owners's characteristics on dogs
quality of life, analysis of observational learning id the context of dog training)
