Research areas
Research projects are mainly focused on the study of tryptophan metabolism; this amino acid plays an important role in several physiological and energetic processes. Enzymatic activities, i.e. indoleamino 2,3-dioxygenase IDO, tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase TDO, will be assessed in various pathological conditions concerning SNC, as well as cancer, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The aim of the research is to identify metabolic alterations, involved and/or associated with pathology induction, and possible diagnostic markers.

Other research lines are related to the analysis of metabolomic and proteomic variations in foods and nutraceutical derivatives in order to characterize their nutritional value and health influence.
