Curriculum Vitae
Ester Marotta graduated in Chemistry in 2000 at the University of Padova with full marks and laude. In 2004 she achieved the Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Padova. For her Ph.D. thesis she received the prize “DSM-SCI 2004”, awarded by the mass spectrometry section of the Italian Chemical Society for the best experimental work in mass spectrometry performed by a young researcher. Moreover she was invited to present the main results of her thesis by an oral communication at the national conference “Massa 2004” (Bari, 26-30 September 2004). During her Ph.D. studies she spent some periods abroad, at Purdue University in Lafayette (IN, USA), where she worked with Prof. R.G. Cooks, and in Bremen (Germany) at the research laboratories of Bruker Daltonics. From 2004 to 2005 she worked at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Padova as a post-doc student.
In March 2006 she became researcher in Organic Chemistry and from 2016 she is Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Padova.

Research areas
The main research activity of prof. Marotta deals with the study of processes activated by cold plasma for applications in the environmental, medical and agrifood fields. She is expert in chemical characterization of plasma and in the study of reaction mechanisms. She was initially involved in the description of the mechanisms of oxidative degradation of volatile organic compounds in air with particular attention to ionic reactions, studied by mass spectrometry techniques. She is now involved in the study of oxidative degradation mechanisms of organic contaminants in water in contact with plasma generated in air. Recently, she deals with the study of plasma activated process of dry reforming of methane and with the chemical characterization of plasma sources developed for medical applications. She is presently involved also in the study of application of cold plasma to the preservation of fruit juices.
