At present, there is no possibility of an internship in the nursery of the hospital where we usually collect the data on newborns' competencies because of work in progress in the Hospital.
Hopefully, we will start again at the end of September 2018. At present we are investigating three main topics : The newborns' sensitivity toward biological motion so we plan to compare newborns' preferences toward biological vs linear or mechanical motion. The innate predispositions toward the cues that trigger Animacy perception at birth. Newborns' sensitivity to motion cues in face perception. Office hours

Innate predispositions to detect social and non-social stimuli
The origin of the functional specialization for social stimuli Mechanisms underlying detection of social agents Orienting of attention in early infancy Professor Simion has three main research themes: The first theme is the study of innate predisposition to process social stimuli. More specifically she is interested in the mechanisms underlying face detection at birth and face processing in early infancy.She is studying the development of the face space and the role of experience in shaping this space and the neural correlates. The second theme is the development of attention in young infants. More specifically she is interested in the mechanisms of orienting in early infancy and in the role of social stimuli on orienting. The third theme is the development of sensitivity to biological motion cues in early infancy and in the role of biological motion in enhancing detection and recognition. Publications
