Current position:
Associate Professor in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Padua, Italy (from 2013);
first level manager at the Microbiology and Virology Unit of Azienda Ospedaliera of Padua (from 2006).

Professional experience:
Assistant Professor, University of Padua, Italy (2006-2013);
Post-Doctoral Fellow, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, USA (1999-2001); Post-doctoral fellow (2001-2003), Research grant, University of Padua (2004-2006).

Education:
1997: Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (110/110 with honours);
Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1998-2000),
Ph.D. in Virology, University of Padua (2002-2004);

Research activity:
53 papers in extenso in peer review journal and 60 abstracts at International and National meetings.

Teaching
Professor of Microbiology and Molecular Virology at the Medicine and Surgery BS and MS Course, University of Padua.
Research and thesis advisor of post-doctoral fellows, Ph.D. students and BSc and MSc students.

Membership:
European Society for Virology (EUSV), Italian Society for Virology (SIV).
Member of the Editorial Board of ISRN Molecular Biology.

- Anti-HIV-1 compounds with unprecedented mechanism of action.
- Antiviral compounds that act through recognition of unusual nucleic acid conformation.
- Analysis and development of anticancer drugs that interact at the telomere/oncogene promoter level.
