Curriculum Vitae
Michela Schiavon graduated in Biology at the University of Padova in 2002 defending a thesis concerning the physiological and ultrastructural changes in maize in response to nitrogen nutrition. In 2006, she obtained the PhD degree in Crop Productivity developing a research activity mainly focused on the analysis of physiological and molecular mechanisms of heavy metal tolerance and acquisition in crops. In 2004, she was awarded with a research grant provided by the Colorado State University (US) to study the molecular mechanisms of plant responses to copper and selenium. In the period 2006-2011, her research activity was focused on unravelling the mechanisms of chromium tolerance and accumulation in plants, and on studying the physiological and molecular responses of crops to biostimulants. In 2011, she was awarded with a research grant by “Giovani Studiosi” to investigate the mechanisms of selenium biofortification in crops. In the period 2013-2015, she studied the effects of biostimulants on plant metabolism and resistance to salinity stress. In the further two years (end 2015-2017), she worked as Research Scientist at the Biology Dept. of the Colorado State University with a grant provided by the National Science Foundation to study the mechanisms of selenium hyperaccumulation and hypertolerance in hyperaccumulator species. Since July 2017, she is Associate Professor at DAFNAE Dept. (University of Padova) and her main research activity is focused on crop biofortification, phyroremediation and the role of biostimulants in stimulating plant productivity and resistance to abiotic stress.
