Curriculum Vitae
Giovanni Mattei is Full Professor in Physics since 2011 (SSD FIS/01, SC 02/B1) at the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy (DFA) of the University of Padova (UniPD), Padua, Italy.
He is Principal Investigator of the Nanostructures Group at DFA and his main research interest are in nanophotonics, plasmonics and magnetoplasmonics. He is Scientific Coordinator of the Low Energy Ion Implantation Lab at the INFN-LNL National Laboratories, Padua.

Scientific Activity
He is or has been coordinator or participant in national and European projects.
Among his research topics: (i) plasmonic and magnetoplasmonic properties of metallic nanostructures; (ii) synthesis and modeling of innovative plasmonic nanostructures for chemical and bio-molecular optical sensors, (iii) linear and nonlinear of nanostructured systems, (iv) investigation of the coupling between quantum emitters and metallic nanostructures for enhancing their quantum efficiency.
He is Member of the International Committee of the Conference Radiation Effects in Insulators (REI) (2003-present).
He has been Guest Editor of the Journal Nuclear Instruments and Methods B (Elsevier).
He is in the Executive Board of the working group ‘Plasmonics and Nano-optics’ of the Italian Society of Optics and Photonics (SIOF).

He is author of about 270 pubblicazioni on ISI Journal and of various chapters in scientific books.
Presently, he has a h-index of 36 with about 4500 citations (source Scopus)

He holds two international patents.

Research areas
L'attività di ricerca si svolge nell'ambito della nanoscienza e nanotecnologia in particolare legate alla formazione di nanostrutture metalliche per applicazioni in plasmonica, nanofotonica e magnetismo. Tra le tematiche studiate:

- Proprietà ottiche lineari e nonlineari di nanostrutture metalliche
- Bio-Sensori plasmonici
- Nanostrutture plasmoniche per il fotovoltaico
- Simulazione delle proprietà ottiche di nanostrutture plasmoniche interagenti

- Interazione emettitori – nanostrutture
- Processi di trasferimento di energia tra nanostrutture metalliche ed emettitori

- Sintesi di nanostrutture bimetalliche per la magneto-plasmonica
- Sintesi di nanostrutture di ossido di ferro per il magnetismo

Termodinamica e Stabilità di nanostrutture:
- Termodinamica di nucleazione e crescita di nanostrutture
- Nano-alligazione e formazione di nanoleghe di elementi immiscibili
- Processi di dealligazione selettiva indotta da fascio ionico
