Target skills and knowledge: In class we will discuss classics in social psychology as well as recent research. Acquiring both empirical/methodological and theoretical knowledge will be the goal of the class.
Examination methods: Thirty-first written multiple choice exam. Duration: more or less half hour
Assessment criteria: The final grade will be based on the final exam. High attendance student will have the opportunity to have an earlier exam.
Course unit contents: 1. Introduction: contents e methodology in social psychology
2. Social cognition: processes, heuristics, biases.
3. The self
4. Causal attribution theory: empirical and applied results.
5. Social attitudes: structure and fucnction; attitude measurement; the relation between attitudes and behavior.
6. The relation between the individual and the group: conformity and social influence.
7. Stereotypes and prejudice: the evaluative and behavioral components, language and culture.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: In addition to traditional lectures I offer a research lab in which small groups conduct experiments or field studies.

1) Arcuri & Cadinu (2011) except Chapter 6 (la modificazione degli stereotipi)

2) Hogg & Vaughn (2016) except Chapter 10

I also recommend to use the on-line materials "Mylab" (which are part of the Hogg & Vaughn text)

In addition, slides and other materials will be made available, through the moodle website to those students who attend the course regularly.
