Prerequisites: None
Target skills and knowledge: Having adequate computer skills is an essential condition to tackle not only many of the teaching units of the Bachelor Degree course, but also professional and research activities.
The course aims at teaching about basic computer use, use of the main features of Word, including elements of document formatting and the use of styles, use of the main features of Excel and Powerpoint, and of online databases.
Examination methods: The final test is a computer-driven written exam on Moodle platform. it includes multiple-choices questions and lasts 30 minutes.
Assessment criteria: The final test evaluates students' understanding of the course's content and of the appropriate language.
Course unit contents: - Hardware and software
- Word: character and paragraph formatting, use of styles, editing functions (e.g.: find and replace), insertion of tables and illustrations, header and footer, creation of tables of contents, correction tools.
- Excel: formatting, search, logic, mathematics and statistics functions, simple and advanced filters, graph insertion, graph formatting and advanced functions.
- Powerpoint
- Internet use and email
- Online databases for literature search
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: For the theoretical part (knowledge to be acquired) the lessons consist mainly of frontal classroom teaching with the help of videos and interactive moments.

For the practical part (skills to learn), the lessons consist of practical exercises at the computer, in particular for using the features of Word and Excel.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Students can use any manual that provides the necessary information for the achievement of the European Computer Driving License (ECDL), in particular the first four modules.
