Syllabus
Prerequisites: This is an introductory course and therefore no specific prerequisites are required.
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed at providing basic knowledge about contemporary social psychology. The main theoretical approaches will be discussed with a constant attention to their applied implications. The major goal is to provide students with conceptual tools that would allow them to better understand relevant social phenomena such as, for instance, the formation of social impressions, social influence and intergroup behaviors.
Examination methods: The exam will be written. Open questions will be presented with space limits for providing an answer. Overall, 8-10 questions will be included. The exam will last 60 minutes.
Assessment criteria: It will be evaluated the ability to correctly report in few words the key required concepts and knowledge
Course unit contents: The course will focus on several different issues including
1) Concepts and methods in social psychology
2) The construction of knowledge and the processes involved in social judgment
3) The Self and self-regulatory processes
4) Social attitudes: their structure, functions, change and relation with behaviors.
5) Social identity and intergroup relations
6) Group dynamics
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: During classes the key aspects of social psychology will be presented and students will later have to further examine them in the textbooks. The active participation of the students is encouraged. Some hours will be devoted to methodological issues and practical training. Laboratories activities will be implemented and discussed during the classes.
