ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR PSYCHOLOGY
Knowledge and understanding
Upon passing the exam, the student:
- has a good written and oral knowledge of the English language, having reached a level of at least B2 in comprehension according to the Common European Framework of Reference for modern languages of the Council of Europe;
- possesses specific knowledge of the socio-cultural situation related to English and the field of psychology;
Communication skills
- is able to comunicate effectively and correctly in English, regarding general information and specific knowledge pertaining to the area of study which requires complex morpho-syntactic structures;
- Is able to open a dialogue with experts and non-experts in the field using the appropriate communicative register.
Learning skills
- has developed the learning skills necessary to be able to
- perfect his/her own linguistic competence
- update and consolidate his/her knowledge
- apply this knowledge in various contexts |
Examination methods:

The final exam is written, it lasts 45 minutes, and it covers all the topics in the book and presented in class.
The level is B2 receptive skills.
Exercises: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, multiple choice, cloze, true/false, translation, match, fill in the blanks, grid. |
Assessment criteria:

The marking will take into consideration the student's listening, reading, writing skills.
Criteria:
- use of English
- knowledge of the topics presented in class
- understanding of written texts |
Course unit contents:

The course aims to develop the student’s knowledge and competence in the linguistic and English for psychology areas, (including morpho-syntactic structures, and lexis). |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

All lessons are held in English
The course comprises classroom lessons as well as informal seminars (in English).
During the lessons, and for homework, students will be involved in reading, comprehension and writing activities, as well as grammatical analysis and exercises. Participants will be asked to participate in group work as well as individual activities.
Students are expected to participate actively in the lessons and seminars.
Students are requested to check the facilities and activities of the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo.
