Syllabus
Prerequisites: Intellectual inquisitiveness is requested.
Target skills and knowledge: - Adopting a sociological stance towards activities, behaviors and identities;
- Identifying main schools of the sociological thought;
-To know the main concepts of sociology and to be able to explain their meanings;
- To be able to understand the sociological features of an issue;
Examination methods: Exam will be written, except during the exam sessions with less than twenty students enrolled. Students will respond to a series of open questions.
Assessment criteria: In order to evaluate the Students' work, we'll adopt some main criteria: logical consistency, adherence to the course content, the ability in reasoning and intersecting data to solve a problem or to response a question, and an ordered and correct writing.

Society as a consistent system
Society as a conflcts arena
Inequality. Classes, races, ethnicity, parties.
Rational choice theory and sociological formalisms
Social processes, Social interaction, Social construction of Self.
Ethnomethodology and situated management of situations
Structuralism, Language, Text
Post-Structuralism and decentering the subject
Contemporary Sociology and Its Problems
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lecturing will be the standard teaching mode at this course.
