Prerequisites: The knowledge provided by the courses of General Psychology, Dynamic Psychology, Psychobiology and Psychometrics is useful to the understanding of the course content.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to provide students with a framework of the main psychological theories of development, providing the basic knowledge of phases, processes and underlying mechanisms, as well as the methods used to study them.
The course will also address practical aspects to show students how the results of the research can be used to improve children and adolescents' development and well-being.
Examination methods: The exam at the end of the course takes place in written form and provides some open questions that address general issues and specific aspects of the study of human development.
Erasmus students can decide whether to take the oral or the written exam.
Assessment criteria: In performing the exam, the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired adequate knowledge on major theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of human development. The written responses of the students will be evaluated considering their correctness and completeness.

- Early childhood: physical, perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional development (20)

- Adolescence and emerging adulthood: physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development (8)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: During the lessons the topics will be treated in their general aspects. Students will have to take over and develop the topics discussed in class using the textbooks and the slides provided by the teacher. The teacher encourages the active participation of students through questions, comments and criticisms.
The teacher encouraged the use of the web page of the course, on the Moodle platform of the School of Psychology, where announcements, useful materials, and information relevant to the course are published. There is also a forum to communicate with the teacher and to exchange information.
Several videos on human development will be shown and discussed in the classroom.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The slides discussed in the classroom, which integrate the contents of the two manuals adopted, will be downloadable from the pages of the course on the Moodle platform of the School of Psychology.
