Prerequisites: Same level as required for admission to physiotherapy degree.
Minimum level of understanding is B1/2
Target skills and knowledge: Aims are to bring students up to a B2 level. To develop reasonable dialogue, writing skills and understanding as may be demanded by the profession and interaction between patient and physio.
Secondary aims to widen professional terms and usage, both written and oral.Ability to gain infomration from talks, videos and written journals.
Assessment criteria: Demonstration of understanding and written skills, to express oneself, clearly even if simply. Test will be based on course content
Course unit contents: Examination of what makes a good linguist, how to develop good langauage skills, a TED talk on above, translation of a short advertisement to test appropriate use of langauge, articles,word order etc.,Article on joints and man at sea. new words: swell, swollen, lack etc.Talk on sprots accidents, use of phrasal verbs like roll over, off. Physio for musicians. How to build an effective PPT. Use of chriotherapy, the future of physiotherapy, protheses and robotics. Diet and exercise awareness.What is good for your bones. Look at the skeleton, muscles, different types of joints.How men and women differ. Ethnical differences. Child versus adult.How your job affects your body. The use of numbers, looking at & describing charts, patients progress etc.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Face on lectures with a dynamic method of constant interaction between teachers and participants, development of listening skills and being able to grasp the meaning of a speech, be able to express a diagnosis and appropriate care,both spoken and in reports, to be able to guide a patient in his movements, and to write and summarize, clarify and explain assessments, as well as having an adequate enough command of the langauge to make the patient feel comfortable
