Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students are required to have basic background in high school mathematics, possibly including:
- First and second degree equations and inequality;
- equation of parabola, ellipses, straight lines;
- Properties of exponents
Target skills and knowledge: To develop theoretical and practical knowledge and skills enabling students to deal with theoretical and formal problems.
To understand the foundation basis Calculus, Physics and data management systems.
Examination methods: Written test
Assessment criteria: The examination focuses on the presented materials and in particular on the exercised solved in classroom. The students are expected to be able to solve by themselves mathematical, statistical and physical problems.
Course unit contents: 3 CFU Mathematics:
• 1 CFU: Reminder of basic notions; function definition; elementary functions; trigonometry. Exercises on these topics.
• 1 CFU: Derivative; function maxima and minima values, monotonicity, convexity. Exercises on these topics.
• 1 CFU: Functions graph. Exercises on these topics.

2 CFU Physics:
• 1 CFU: unit of measurement; International System of units, conversions; mechanics and kinematics. Exercises on these topics.
• 1 CFU: Physical properties of materials, physical properties of water; thermodynamics; optics. Exercises on these topics.

3 CFU Statistics:
• 1 CFU: Frequency, tables, graphical representation.
• 1 CFU: Statistical indicators, indicators of variability.
• 1 CFU: Practice exercises in computer lab.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists of 64 hours, including both lectures (40 hours) and practical applications and exercises (24 hours).
Class attendance is suggested, as well as an active participation in the solution of proposed exercises.
