Prerequisites:

Though the following topics will be recalled, the student is supposed to have knowledge of
 linear and quadratic equations and inequalities,
 equation of line, parabola and circle,
 main trigonometric relations,
 properties of exponentiation and logarithms. 
Target skills and knowledge:

This course aims at providing mathematical tools for the study of functions and the solutions of practical problems by means of derivatives, integrals and differential equations. 
Examination methods:

Written exam, in which the student has to study a onevariable function and solve some additional shorter exercises similar to those presented in this course. 
Assessment criteria:

The exam is designed to verify that the student has understood the basic theoretical notions illustrated in this course, and that he/she has learnt to exploit these notions to solve problems. 
Course unit contents:

 Recollection of some basic notions.
 The notion of function, elementary functions.
 Exponentiation and logarithms.
 Limit of a function.
 Derivatives, maximum and minimum points, increasing and decreasing functions, convex and convave functions.
 Study of a function.
 Functions of two or more variables.
 Integrals.
 Some kinds of differential equations.
