Syllabus
Prerequisites: No prerequisites are required.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims at illustrating:
(1) the main steps of the history of the Italian language (from the 18th Century to the present day).
(2) the methodologies for a linguistic text analysis.
(3) some exemples of linguistic analysis in literary text (from the 18th Century to the present day).
Assessment criteria: The acquired abilities will be evaluated in terms of:
1) knowledge of the course's topics.
2) knowledge of the linguistic methodologies.
3) ability to use critical approaches appropriate to textual and contextual analysis.
4) argumentative skills in an academic discussion.
Course unit contents: The lessons will focus on the following topics:
1) Carlo Goldoni's theatrical languages.
2) Manzoni and the Italian prose in 19th Century.
3) Translations and Italian poetical language in the 20th Century.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The lessons will be ex cathedra, but students will be solicited to take part in the lessons with observations and questions.
