Prerequisites: The course lessons will be in English.
Class attendance is mandatory.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Because of its highly interactive nature, a maximum numeber of 20 students will be allowed to take the course.
In case the number of students exceeds 20, priority will be given to Strategie di Comunicazione students.
Target skills and knowledge: Introduction to oral communication in English.
Study and pratice of the linguistic and non-linguistic elements contributing to the success of oral communication (pronunciation, listening, reading, orale presentation strategies, introduction to the comprehension of body language).
Examination methods: Oral presentation in mid course and at the end of the course.
Assessment criteria: Class attendance is mandatory. Student who do not attend class regularly may not take the final exam.

The final grade will be based on:
- a mid-term and a final presentation where students will have to apply the strategies learned in class;
- active participation in all class activities;
- in-class assignments.
Course unit contents: The course aim is to help students improve their oral communication through the study, analysis and pratice of the elements contributing to successful communication. Emphasis will be given to the linguistic and non-linguistic mechanisms favoring communication effectiveness in oral interaction.
The course lectures, both theoretical and practical, will focus on: pronunciation and intonation; lexicon and idiomatic expressions of oral language; characteristics of different types of interactions (face to face, over the phone, computer-mediated, etc.); characteristics of reading aloud; strategies for public speaking; face expressions and body language.
The analysis and practice of communication will be based on the analysis of examples of spoken language produced in authentic audio and video texts.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course requires the students' active participation in all class activities, aimed at showing, both during the course and in the final exam, that the students can apply the communication strategies learned in class.
