Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: The students will acquire the theoretical and practical basis of image processing and geological interpretation.
Examination methods: Oral and practical evaluation.
Assessment criteria: The oral and practical examination will be devoted to assessing if the student has acquired concepts and practical skills delivered during the course.
Course unit contents: Theoretical concepts: physical principles; remote sensing platforms and sensors; spectrophotometry; principles and methods of image interpretation for geology.
Image processing: atmospheric correction, geocoding, contrast enhancements, convolution filters, band ratios and spectral indexes, Principal Component Analysis, Classifications.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: 24 h lectures + 42h practical exercises. Lectures will be dedicated to acquisition methodologies and remote sensing analysis. The practical exercises will be devoted to image processing, spectral signature analysis and image interpretation for geological purposes.
