Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic descriptive and inferential statistics notions are needed as well as some basic notions about research methodology in Psychology
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed at providing students specific skills, such as:

1. Knowledge about the main research designs applied in Clinical Psychology.
2. Ability of selecting which research design is the most appropriate, on the basis of both the research hypotheses and the sample available.
3. Knowledge on the main data analysis techniques (both parametric and non-parametric) used in Clinical Psychology.
4. Knowledege about the best practice in single case studies.
5. Use of the statistical software R
Examination methods: The exam's modality will be in the written form. It is composed by 3 open questions about theoretical aspects and 5 exercises regarding the data analysis in psychology. The exercises will be performed on the computer using the software R.The exam's duration is 120 minutes. The final mark will be obtained by summing the scores on both the theoretical questions and the exercises.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation will include the acquisition of the theoretical aspects, the ability in applying the introduced research designs and in analyzing the obtained data trough R statistical environment.
Course unit contents: - Elements of test theory and techniques (reliability, validity, responsiveness)
- Experimental, quasi-experimental and single-subject research designs in clinical psychology
- Parametric (linear models) and non-parametric data analysis techniques
- During the course practice will be carried out on data collected in clinical psychology research, by means of the statistical software R.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lessons and computer exercises. Students are warmly invited to attend the lessons in order to facilitate the acquisition of competencies not achievable by only studying text books.
Additional notes about suggested reading: It is highly recommended to use all the educational material available on Moodle.
