Syllabus
Prerequisites: It is necessary to know the concepts of Basic Cognitive processes, Neuropsychology and Clinical neuropsychology and to have cleare notions of statistical psychometrics.

For students who need to revise basic concepts of neuropsychology, the reading of the following text is suggested:
Vallar G., Papagno, C. Manuale di neuropsicologia, Il Mulino, 2007.
Target skills and knowledge: The aim is to give the foundamental theorical bases and practical methodologies to carry out a neuropsychological assessment in order to have a clear neuropsychological diagnosis.
Thus the student must know
1. how to collect the neuropsychological anamnesi,
2. to observe the patient, to interview him/her,
3. to select the appropriate tests,
4. to gather all the information for a diagnostic reasoning.
Examination methods: The final examination includes a written test, followed by an oral examination (provided that the written test has been passed).
The written test consists of 31 multiple-choice questions.
Each correct answer scores 1 point. No points are subtracted for omitted or wrong answers. The written test lasts about 30 minutes.
All questions can be answered by studying the textbooks.
The score of the written test will be confirmed, increased or decreased by the oral examination. However any changes won't be more than two points.
Assessment criteria: Student's evaluation will be based on:
1. his/her comprehension of different specific terms and definitions;
2. his/her ability in diagnostic reasoning;
3. his/her comprehension of the best methodology/tests to use in assessment.
All concepts can be found in the books for this course.
Course unit contents: The following topics will be discussed:
- team work in clinical setting
- behaviour assessment and measurement
- neuropsychological anamnesi
- interview techniques
- psychometric instruments
- diagnostic conclusion
- the neuropsychological report
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Theorical lessons will be mixed with video of clinical patients which will be object of discussions and analyses. Class attendance is strongly encouraged.
In the class specific practical activities with study groups will be proposed with the aim to learn how to analize the patient, formulate the diagnosis and write a neuropsychological report.
Additional notes about suggested reading: 1)Materials (slides, neuropsychological tests, and scientific papers) useful for a better learning will be available on the Moodle platform.

2)Foreign students who want to take the exam in English, the following book (the chapters indicated) substitutes the other Italian books:
