Prerequisites: It is assumed that students have basic knowledge of clinical psychology (general psychopathology, theoretical models and research methods in clinical psychology), as well as on the structure and functions of central and peripheral nervous system.
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed at providing:
a) a general frame of Clinical Health Psychology, and its application.
b) the acquisition of knowledge on the effects of stress on neurohormonal and immune systems, and on health or illness dispositions in stress-related disorders, mostly in at risk populations;
c) students will be also trained to apply cognitive-behavioral and stress management procedures for prevention and rehabilitation
Examination methods: The exam includes a written test (about 30 min.) with multiple choice, True/False, completion and short open questions. The test will commonly include 20-25 questions (some requiring more than one answer). The final grade will be computed as the sum of the scores obtained in single items.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of student knowledge will be based upon:
a) the ability to comprehend and report concepts and methods related to the issues examined during the course;
b) the capacity of application of skills acquired;
c) the capacity of verbalizing with clarity, precision, synthesis
Course unit contents: - Clinical Health Psychology: general framework and principal models;
- The Psychobiology of the Stress;
- Stress related disorders, at risk populations, chronic diseases and chronic pain;
- Stress management procedures.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: a) Lessons will cover the course topics with the aid of audiovisuals.
b) Seminars and practical exercises will address specific topics, and promote the acquisition of interdisciplinary competences.
c) Students will then move on to a thorough study of the course contents using textbooks.
d) Students will have the opportunity, during the course, to test their preparation for the exam.
e) Based on the availability of the Clinical Services and the Laboratories at the Department of General Psychology, lab sessions will be organized in order to promote application of practical skills.

Basic knowledge on structure and functions of the central and peripheral nervous systems can be obtained by reading the textbook of any of the BA courses in Psychobiology.
