Syllabus
Prerequisites: They are useful for understanding the topics, knowledge acquired in the course of Advanced Dynamic Psychology, Theory and techniques of the analytically orientated interview, Psychodynamic Psychiatry
Target skills and knowledge: Through the concept of "diagnosis", the course proposes to initiate student psychodynamic understanding of psychic pathology, both from a theoretical and a clinical point of view, through the acquisition of tools for thought useful to analyze the request posed by a patient, how to conduct the initial assessment interview, how to return to the patient a suggestion that is a specific answer to his request.
To this end, it is necessary having already developed a competence on indications and contraindications to a psychic treatment, and to acquire skills enabling him/her to direct or not the patient towards a psychoanalytic treatment and, in particular, to a classic psychoanalysis or to other individual, institutional, short or group psychotherapies characterized by an analytical approach
Examination methods: A written examination is proposed lasting about two hours, with open questions to check comprehension of the program and related to both exam texts and material provided in class.
Assessment criteria: Evaluation criteria are based on an overall analysis of student knowledge about lectures, recommended texts and collective discussion on clinical cases considered from the perspective both of the psychoanalysis and the current psychological-psychiatric nosography.
Course unit contents: The course contents cover the theoretical-clinical aspects of psychoanalytic theory related to psychodynamic diagnosis. Particular attention will be paid to the stages of libido development, the positions and organizations of psychic experience, the drive dynamics, characteristics of Ego and Superego and the boundaries of the psychic apparatus; the defenses, types of anguish, sense-perceptions, images and representation, thought and dream activity. These theoretical themes will be used for better understanding clinical aspects of hysteria, of actual neuroses, of narcissistic structures as well as borderline, psychotic, melancholic, perverse, psychosomatic and neurotic structures.Furthermore, such a perspectives will be declined also by using the diagnostic and statistical manual of menthal disorders.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures and clinical case discussions with active involvement of students
