Syllabus
Prerequisites: The student must have gained a basic knowledge in psychology and psychopathology and should have a specific interest in criminology and fornesic psychiatry. These disciplines, not only deal with the application of this knowledge to the legal field, that is the civil and criminal expertise and about the punishment and the rehabilitation of the criminal. They offer, however, an original point of view on clinical experience which, nowadays, it's a very important issue for a psychologist's professional career, even if not involved in the forensic field.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to give to the students theoretical and clinical tools, in a psychoanalytic perspetctive, for the comprehension of complex clinical pictures, which feature patients with violent behaviour, who commit crimes and show problems in dealing with their aggressiveness. These patients are hard to define with the normal diagnostic instruments and as hard to treat in a classic therapeutical setting.
Examination methods: Oral. During the course it will take into account the possibility to schedule a written test, reserved to the students who have attended the course regularly.
Assessment criteria: It will be tested the ability of the students to differentiate between a traditional clinical diagnosis and a forensic psychiatric one and to describe complex clinical pictures.
Course unit contents: The psychiatric expertise. Mental illness, infermity and mental defect. Mental forensic tests. Social danger.Therapy for alchool and drug addicted. Abnormal personalities and criminality. Severe personality disorders. Crime of impetous. Pathological sexual behaviour. Minor victime of crime. Entrustment in cases of separation.
