Prerequisites: Basic anatomo-physiology of the nervous system and of developmental psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to provide elements to recognize the clinical characteristics of the main neuropsychiatric pathologies of childhood and adolescence, in order to acquire skills regarding the early identification of situations at risk for the development of the child, adolescent and relational environment. The neuro-psychic pathology in developmental age will be considered within 4 guidelines referring to dynamical-procedural links between: brain plasticity and psychomotor development, psyche and soma, normality and pathology, psychiatric diagnosis and psychopathological diagnosis .
Examination methods: Written and / or verbal exam for attending students (material given during class lessons) and for those not attending (recommended text).
Assessment criteria: What will be considered for evaluation purposes:
-attendance and its continuity to the lessons (for attending students)
- personal elaboration of the learned topics
- students' ability to make connections between the various topics and to express their own thoughts about
Course unit contents: psychomotor development, psychic organizers and neuropsychomotor evaluation in early childhood.
• brain plasticity, learning and functional recovery following brain damage.
• main neurological pathologies in developmental age (headaches, epilepsies, defective pathologies, general concepts on space occupying brain lesions, neurodevelopmental diseases).
• main frameworks of psychiatric pathology in the developmental age (neurotic syndromes, psychotic syndromes, borederline pathologies, behavioral disorders) and perinatal psychiatry.
• basic concepts of diagnostic-therapeutic treatment of the child and adolescent with neuropsychiatric disease; working alliance with parents.
