Prerequisites: None.
Target skills and knowledge: To introduce the student in Management Engineering at the main statistical techniques within the business environments where they are required, including both the theoretical parts and the proper applications of methodologies to real problems.
Examination methods: Oral examination.
Assessment criteria: The preparation of the student will be evaluated on the basis of the degree of knowledge of the theoretical principles and applications of statistical methods presented within this course.
Course unit contents: 1. Elements of univariate and multivariate statistical methods:
Elements of descriptive statistics: frequency, indices of synthesis (position, variability and shape) and graphical representations (histogram, boxplot, scatterplot).
Elements of probability theory: discrete and continuous probability distributions.
Elements of statistical inference: sampling distributions, point and interval estimation, hypothesis testing, simple and multiple linear regression.
2. Design and analysis of experiments and Conjoint Analysis:
One-way ANOVA, Multi-Way ANOVA, Factorial Designs and Optimal Designs. Response Surface Methodology. Full profile and choice based conjoint analysis.
3. Nonparametric statistics:
Resampling methods: univariate and multivariate permutation tests.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures and exercises in the computer lab using a statistical software.
