Prerequisites: Level B1, written and spoken, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Target skills and knowledge: Level B2 (CEFRL) in each competence (listening, reading, speaking and writing) in Portuguese language.
Examination methods: The final grade is assigned calculating the weighted average of the following marks:
1. The marks of the written and oral tests from the Portuguese Language skills course (‘esercitazioni’), European variant taught by Dott. Jorge Maximino or Brazilian variant taught by Dott.ssa Bianca Ferrini;
2. The mark of the written exam at the end of Theory lectures taught by professor Elsa Rita dos Santos.
Assessment criteria: Students are required to pass the written and spoken tests at the end of the Portuguese Language skills course (‘esercitazioni’) before taking the written final exam of Theory Lectures.
During the year exams can be made in Portuguese Language skills course (‘esercitazioni’) which results will affect the final mark of the ‘esercitazioni’. Only attend students will have access to those intermediate exams.
Course unit contents: The module explains the main arguments of syntactic and discursive nature in a contrastive Portuguese-Italian analysis and will focus on the following issues:
1. Personal pronouns
1.1. Subject pronouns
1.2. Direct object pronouns
1.3. Indirect object pronouns
2. Verbs
2.1. Subjunctive mood.
2.2. Imperative mood
2.3. Indicative mood: Future tense – Conditional and Conditional Perfect.
3. Prepositions
4. Punctuation
5. Sentences
5.1. Types of sentences
5.2. Simple and complex sentences
5.3. Coordinating conjunctions

Attending students and NON-attending students have the same program.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: All students are highly advised to attend the Portuguese Language skills course (‘esercitazioni’) taught by dott. Jorge Maximino (European variant) or dott.ssa Bianca Ferrini (Brazilian variant) Both courses will be taught both in I and II semesters.
The Lectures will be held only in II semester by professor Elsa Rita dos Santos. Lectures attendance is welcome.
Although Portuguese native speakers don’t need to attend practical classes they are expected to take all parts of the exam.
