Syllabus
Prerequisites: Principles of mathematics and statistics
Target skills and knowledge: Students learn principles of economics, market mechanisms and main methodologies to estimate economic value of environmental resources. In addition, the course will provide the economic tools for environment and land management.
Examination methods: Written test. Multiple choice questions and open questions requiring short answers. Illustration and description of figures/graphs with comments.
Assessment criteria: Criteria are based on valuation of theoretical and practical learning.
Course unit contents: 1 CFU: The economic system and the environment.
2 CFU: The market: demand, supply and market equilibrium.
1 CFU Public goods and market failure
2 CFU Incentive-based policies. Planning and management of environmental resource
2 CFU Non market valuation techniques and environmental resources. Permit trading programs.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Part of the course will be devoted to data analysis in the computer lab, in order to implement methodologies acquired during classes.
