Syllabus
Prerequisites: Course attendance requires basic knowledge acquired in First Year courses, in particular General Psychology, Psychobiology, and Developmental Psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: Students are expected to gain knowledge about Clinical Psychology, specifically: main theories and models in Clinical Psychology; basics of research methods in Clinical Psychology; diagnostic classification (DSM-5 system); main psychopathological disorders; multidimensional assessment, psychodiagnostics, and intervention techniques in Clinical Psychology.
Examination methods: The written exam consists in 25 questions to completion and 2 open questions. The overall duration of the exam is about 50 minutes. International students can require to have the exam in English language.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of gained knowledge and competences is based on the assessment of comprehension and acquisitions of topics and concepts addressed during classes and described in textbooks, as well as on the accuracy of clinical terminology.
Course unit contents: Main contents are:
• Theories and models in Clinical Psychology
• Basics of research methods in Clinical Psychology
• Multidimensional assessment in Clinical Psychology (clinical interview, self-report instruments, behavioural observation, and psychophysiological assessment)
• Diagnostic classification (DSM-5 system)
• Clinical features of the main psychopathological disorders
• Evidence-based interventions in Clinical Psychology
• Analysis of clinical cases
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Classes will cover the main course topics. Students might expand topics through suggested readings, analysis of clinical cases and examples of researches in Clinical Psychology. Practice lessons will be mainly focused on the analysis of clinical cases.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Lecture slides will be made available on Moodle. All material uploaded on Moodle will be mandatory as study material for both attendant and nonattendant students.
