Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic notions of Modern and Contemporary History are recommended.
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the theory of knowledge and scientific rationality in modern and contemporary philosophy; capacity for critical analysis; methodological maturity which enables the student to use his own competence in an autonomous way.
Examination methods: Final assessment will be conducted as a written exam with open questions.
Assessment criteria: The knowledge of the topics and the capacity of critical analysis will be evaluated.
Course unit contents: Conscience and temporality.

In the first part of the course, the Cartesian model of reason and the temporality of the cogitatio will be presented.
Later, the course will present the main lines of the contemporary debate on temporality.
In the context of the French philosophical tradition, the thought of E. Lévinas will be introduced; starting from the critique of the Cartesian model of identical consciousness, Lévinas develops a new dialectic of the time.
In Italian philosophical tradition, the reflection of L. Pareyson will be considered.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will be held in 42 hours of frontal lessons; the topics indicated in the program will be presented and discussed.
