Syllabus
Prerequisites: Attending students must be available to the teamwork and must be able to use a camera.
Target skills and knowledge: Students will learn about the main topics studied by cultural anthropology and the approaches related to anthropological schools.
Course objectives are:
the improvement of the critical interpretation skills of contemporary cultural reality;
the development of judgment autonomy;
the expansion of relational skills in cultural negotiations with the 'Other',through the 'reflexivity' applied to some contexts of psychological intervention;
the ability to analyze the form and content of cultural narratives;
the ability to analyze the organization of culture traits, including power structures, gender roles, indoctrination etc.
Examination methods: Written examination with 3 open questions.
There are three questions, one for each book required for the exam
Assessment criteria: will evaluate the understanding and knowledge of the books provided for the examination
Course unit contents: The course will provide an introductory overview on the anthropological studies of cultures. Fundamental themes are: relationship between the main anthropological theories and the cultural systems, entities acting cultures (individual, group, society), culture, symbol, meanings, cultural communication, contemporary anthropology,funeral systems.
-Anthropological point of view- Agency and Culture- Analysis of the development of hegemonic structures- Symbols, meanings, cultures;- Development of the anthropological studies- Cultural communication-Identity and Alterity- Interethnicity and multiculturalism- Cultural negotiation- Funeral systems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: -Lectures, multimidia presentations, film sequences, interaction with students.
Additional notes about suggested reading: -For attending students the procedures of examination are different. Attending students will have to prepare only some parts of the books required for examination, and will present a photographic essay, a picture story.
The presence in the classroom will be verified.
