Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of the basic psychological concepts
Comprehension of written English
Target skills and knowledge: At the end of the course the students will know:
- the main theories and perspectives on personality and the models for studying individual differences
- the appropriate terminology on personality and individual differences

At the end of the course the students will be able to:
- identify and discuss the personality profiles and differences between different profiles
- think critically about questions and topics of personality and individual differences
- apply their knowledge of classic theories to current research questions on personality and individual differences
Examination methods: The final exam will be held on the official dates indicated by the School of Psychology.

The assessment will cover all the topics taught during the classes and the content of the two books.
It will be ascertained the knowledge of course content and its application to the interpretation of experimental results, individual difference profiles and to the comparison of different classifications, models and paradigms of personality and individual differences.

The exam will be written, will endure one hour and will be organized as follow:
a) multiple-choice and true/false questions
b) open questions
The exam will be the same for students whether they attend the lectures or not.
For students who attend there will also be optional additional open questions relating to practical experiences specifically conducted during the lectures (group and individual work, and laboratory experience).
For Erasmus or international students, the exam can be taken in English.
Assessment criteria: The assessment criteria will concern:
- appropriate use of terminology and precise expressions on content;
- argumentative accuracy regarding different models of personality and aspects of individual differences;
- the ability to translate knowledge of aspects of personality and individual differences into actual questions about personality, and into an understanding of individual profiles.
Course unit contents: The course content includes:
- a review of the main authors and their theoretical approaches to personality, and particularly the traits theory, the biological perspective, the cognitive perspective and the social-cognitive perspective;
- an analysis of cognitive and non-cognitive variables that explain individual differences. In particular, the variables involved in motivation, memory, learning and spatial and orientation abilities, analyzed in relation to individual differences.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The planned learning activities and teaching methods are:

- frontal lectures
- video presentations
- small group activities (for critical thinking questions and comments on personality questions)
- self-assessments with quizzes, open questions and interactive games
- working groups on papers
- individual and group work on the analysis of personality profiles
- lab experiences
Additional notes about suggested reading: The course material includes PowerPoint presentations with content from the book.
