Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge acquired in the course of Developmental Psychology can be useful for the understanding of the topics covered in this course.
Target skills and knowledge: At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- know the main psychoanalytic models (both the classical and the most modern ones);
- use appropriate language while talking about psychoanalytic concepts;
- indicate the strengths and weaknesses of the models presented.
Examination methods: The exam will take place in written form. There will be 4/5 open questions with a limited response lenght (about 20 lines). The exam will last for a total of 90 minutes.

Registration on Uniweb platform is mandatory for taking the exam.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation criteria through which the verification of knowledge will be carried out are the following:
- ability to answer all the questions formulated in a complete and transversal way, integrating the different theoretical models presented,
- use of appropriate terminology,
- ability to grasp the strengths and weaknesses of the models presented.
Course unit contents: 1. Sigmund Freud and the basic concepts of Psychoanalysis
2. Major post-Freudian authors:
- Psychology of the ego
- Psychology of Object Relations
- Psychology of the Self
- Bion
- the Independents
- the theorists of attachment and separation
- Infant research
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course includes lectures and in-depth lectures on authors, theories and current applications of psychoanalysis. The presentation of the material will take place via a power point. The teaching material presented during the lectures will be made available on the Moodle platform.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Exam material includes:
- study of the book "Manual of Dynamic Psychology" by Lis, Stella, Zavattini (chapters 1, 2.3 (only paragraph 2), 4 (excluding paragraph 3), 5, 6 (excluding paragraphs 2 and 3), 7 , 8, 9, 12, 13, 15.
- study of the book "The method of free associations" (Semi, A. A., 2011)
- study of one of the free choice books (TESTO A SCELTA) indicated in the below section "Reference books"
