Prerequisites: Nothing.
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide students with the basic knowledge and technical skills necessary for the site management. With particular attention to the aspects of the organization that have implications on the safety of the building site.
The course has the following knowledge and skills expected:
1. Knowledge of the phases in which the building process is articulated, as well as the operators and the role of each person in the process;
2. Knowledge of the documents and drawings of the executive project, necessary for participation in public works tenders;
3. Knowledge of the technical information that must accompany the construction products and knowledge of the relative technical language;
4. Transition from the documents of the executive planning to the management of the construction;
5. Scheduling of construction products as a tool for the economic control of the contract and for the construction of buildings;
6. Knowing how to define the Work Program starting from the following variables and their interactions: a) complexity and extension of the Work; b) building period; c) location of the building site; d) available labor resources; e) available equipment resources; f) building site safety project;
7. Knowledge of the safety aspects of the construction site as a social need and economic advantage. Analysis of the cost of an accident at work. Coordination between the work program and the security plan;
8. Knowing how to identify the elements of analysis and risk assessment;
9. Knowing how to identify the recurring risks on building sites, for each risk analysis, identification of the prevention provisions to be adopted (equipment and procedures) to minimize the probability of occurrence of the harmful event and the extent of the damage;
10. To be able to carry out the analysis and detection of safety costs on construction sites.
Examination methods: The verification of the expected knowledge and skills is carried out through 2 written oral exams and an exercise. The written oral tests and the exercise according to the weights attributed below contribute to determining the final grade.
The first test, contributes to 40% of the final grade, and has to be looked during the course, while the second test, which contributes to 40% of the final grade, has to be looked at the end of the course. During the course will also be assigned an individual exercise on the topics covered which must be completed, delivered and approved at the end of the course and contributes to 20% of the final grade.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation criteria with which the knowledge and skills acquired will be verified are:
1. Completeness of the acquired knowledge;
2. Ability to prepare competently the elaborated subjects on the assigned topics;
3. Property of the technical terminology used both in the documents prepared and in the oral interview;
4. Knowledge of the course contents provided in the lectures.
Course unit contents: The course is divided into two parts: a theoretical-training part and an informative one.
The contents are:
The building process;
Process operators: roles and responsibilities;
Documents and drawings of the executive project of public works;
Construction products;
The European directive on construction products and building products regulation;
Technical information on construction products and related mandatory and consensual regulations;
Transition from the documents of the executive planning to the management of the building;
Definition of the Work Program starting from the following variables and their interactions:
a) complexity and extension of the Work, b) construction period, c) site location, d) available labor resources, e) available equipment resources, f) site safety project
Safe management of the building site and completed works.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The activities include classroom hours where information on the course is explained on computer support (powerpoint file). In parallel with the frontal activity, the exercise activity is organized in dedicated hours. The exercise performed by the student is subject to revision throughout the period of the course; it allows the student to carry out a first experimentation of the knowledge acquired during the course.
