Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: Learning of the basic, theoretical, regulatory and practical tools for understanding and making technical documentation used in the development process of industrial products: from the acquisition of methods and techniques for representing the industrial project through understanding the correlations between shape, function and production processes, to the description of the main functional elements of the machines.
Examination methods: The exam consists of three written tests.
Part one: Representation Methods.
Part two: drawing according to international standards and designation of fixed and removable fasteners.
Part three: calculation and indication of tolerances and surface roughness on a technical drawing.
Partial exams are foreseen for students attending the lessons according to the moodle advices.
Assessment criteria: The student preparation will be evaluated based upon the acquisition and comprehension of course topics (with particular reference to international standards aspects) and the ability to use this knowledge in simple application independently and knowingly.
Course unit contents: Overview of tools and methods for design. Representation systems and ISO international standards for technical drawings. Basics of geometrical product specification: limits, fits and tolerance for linear size; the ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes; geometrical tolerancing; the surface texture of the mechanical parts. Elements of machine drawing: welded bolted joints, operating principles and representation of the main machine components.
A laboratory of geometric modeling is foreseen, in which students can acquire principle of drawing in a software environment (CAD).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists of face-to-face teaching followed by classroom tutorials on the topics discussed during the lesson. Homework are also assigned each week to be performed independently and hand over it via the moodle platform. For admission to the examination, a minimum of homework is required.
