Prerequisites:
|
In order to attend the Legal English course effectively, students should demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the English language, at least at an intermediate level (B1 according to the Common European Reference Frame for foreign language learning). |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
The course aims at providing students with a solid introduction to understanding English legal terminology and is designed to help students improve their overall English skills towards reaching a B2 level. |
Examination methods:
|
End-of-course assessment consists of an oral examination in English. Students will need to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the subject to pass the exam. |
Assessment criteria:
|
Students will be assessed on their knowledge of the subject, including all of the specific topics and assignments of the course, on their language skills and proficiency (including pronunciation) and on their overal communication skills, including their ability to express ideas effectively and in a persuasive way as well as their ability to translate English legal texts into Italian. |
Course unit contents:

Introduction to the Common law tradition and method with a specific focus on the United Kingdom and the United States of America. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
|
Traditional lectures, Teacher-led discussions, work in pairs/groups, reading/listening/speaking tasks and assignments and students are expected to participate actively.
The course is held in English. |
