Learning outcomes:
The course aims at teaching the fundamentals of the language of political science and the most important methods in contemporary social science. |
Examination methods:

Assessment:
The examination consists of a written test and an oral test (which can only be accessed after passing the written). The written exam lasts for three hours and predicts responses to seven open-ended questions. Three questions are about the first part (foundations), the second three questions are about the second part (democracy in Italy) and one question is about special part (political transition in Italy). Students attending may choose to substitute the answer to the question on the special part with a sort essay on one of the meetings held during the course.
The oral exam consists of any interview concerning the written test. |
Assessment criteria:

The exam will evaluate the specific knowledge of the texts, the skill about synthesis and the precision about dissertation of the answers to the questions and the lexis of the political science. |

Content of teaching:
During the course the cornerstones of the most advanced contemporary political science will be analyzed. We will focus on the principles of politics, on the form of States and regimes, on the form of political mobilization and on the systems of government and governance in the era of globalization.
Particular attention will be devoted to the analysis of democracy, with reference to the Italian political system in comparative perspective. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:

Beyond the lessons and the discussions about the main topics, during the course there will be meetings with guests as political scientists, sociologists, historians and journalists and the presentation of books about the most important topics of political science. During these activities, the student could choose to write a brief dissertation that will replace the question about the special part of the course. |
