Prerequisites: Students must have B1 spanish language proficiency of the common european framework of reference for languages (CEFR). Students who reach this level can take the B1 test in the same dates of written examinations. Beginners and students that don't succeed in the test have to attend the lessons of language assistant Ana Cazorla. It is convenient to pass the test in the first year and in any case must be passed before attending the official course of the second year

Equivalent certifications are:
1. Diploma DELE (at least B1 level)
2. Diploma Universidad Menéndez y Pelayo - UIMP (at least B1 level). Contact the teachers for more informations.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to a) start a metalinguistic reflection on Spanish - in its linguistic structures, in the different levels and communication registers with attention to the American mode and on a contrastive basis (Italian / Spanish) - aimed at developing awareness of its own learning processes that allows the progressive acquisition of autonomy; b) give the students the tools and proper proficiencies in the written and oral skills also in the sectoral domains, including critical and argumentative re-elaboration;c) give interdisciplinary knoledge to the students, so that they can understand historical and contemporary spanish and hispano-american realities.
Examination methods: Grammar test (propedeutic and obligatory for all): grammar test of Level B1, preparatory to the Spanish Language Course of the second year, which must be passed pima of the attendance to the official course.

Once the preparatory test has been passed the final exam consists of various written and oral tests during the classes.

NOT ATTENDING student will have to do:
1. Written examination (dictation, translatin, a grammatical exercice, a composition).

To prepare for written tests, students can attend the classes of dr. Ana Cazorla or study the books:

- J. Pérez Navarro- C. Polettini, Contacto. Nivel 1 + CD, Bologna, Zanichelli, 2003, voll.1 e 2 (for the test and the written exam).
- A. Cazorla Cáceres, Del español al italiano. Análisis comparativo y modelos de traducción, ed. Libreria Rinoceronte, Padova, 2002 (for written exam).

2. Oral examination on the following books:

Moreover, during oral examination grammatical competence can be tested orally through specific questions.
The books can be purchased at the "Nexus" bookshop in via Beato Pellegrino 8 (Padua).
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the student's preparation will be based on an understanding of the themes, on the acquisition of the concepts and methodologies proposed and on the ability to apply them autonomously
Course unit contents: After a brief outline of Spanish constitutional history, aimed at including the drafting of the constitutional texts in the socio-historical context in which they are born, the course will examine the current Spanish Constitution as an expression of the values ​​of the democratic transition of post-Francoism and as origin of the current state structure, characterized by political, cultural, linguistic pluralism. We will analyze the forms and the expressions of this pluralism, also through the excursus in the Catalan, Basque, Galician, Sephardic, Gypsy and Catalan languages, as well as in some variants of the Castilian, not only the peninsular.
We will also try to provide students with linguistic and cultural tools to understand the current Spanish socio-political situation within the European context.
Through the lessons, entirely carried out in Spanish, students will become familiar with the Castilian historical, political and constitutional vocabulary and will be called to participate critically in the discussion by independently reworking the contents learned in their own reflections.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Content will be presentes through computer support (power-point, web pages ...) or on paper and in some cases on material previously available on moodle. During the lessons we will make extensive use of authentic and multimedia material (audio, images, video) that will help in an immediate way to understand the realities studied, on which the students will be called to discuss orally in Spanish with each other and with the teacher, even through group activities.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The teachers will give materials to attending students during the course and put it in moodle. Not attending students will have to study the books in bibliography
