Prerequisites: General biology
Target skills and knowledge: Provide knowledge on main species and varieties of ornamental herbaceous, shrubs and trees in term of systems of production and uses in the different ornamental areas.
Examination methods: To be defined
Assessment criteria: Plants identification, knowledge of subject and explanation ability
Course unit contents: 1°credit = Role of plants in the green areas in relation to other ornamental components. Matching of colours. Model of ornamental areas. Botanical nomenclature of ornamental plants. Morphology of flower, leaf and plant shape.
2° credit =Quality evaluation of ornamental plants morphology. Choice of ornamental plant in relation to the environment and to the characteristics of place
3° credit = Morphology and shape of ornamental trees. Pruning and stability evaluation of ornamental trees VTA, SIA and SIM.
4° credit = Ornamental plants: herbaceous plant annuals, biennals and perennials. Outline of plant with bulbs, rhizome, corm, tuber. Ornamental shrubs for flower, foliages, hedge, climbing, ground cover.
5° credit = Use of ornamental plants: garden, urban park, historical park, plants for garden for the senses, park for the elderly.
6° credit = Rose: different species and varieties, propagation, rootstocks, shrub roses, tree roses, climbing roses, pruning of roses;
7° credit = Viburnum spp, Hydrangea spp, Climbing plants: Use and pruning. Rododendron spp. Rain garden.
8° credit = Outline of ornamental trees and their use.
