Syllabus
Prerequisites: Elementary notions of algebra.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to provide students with the basic knowledge of economics, developing analytical and evaluation skills on the functioning of markets at the microeconomic level, with applications related to the agricultural, forestry and environmental domains.
Knowledge and skills on the following topics will be developed.
- Supply and demand: how markets operate
- Supply and demand: markets and well-being
- Economics of the public sector: externalities, public goods and collective resources
- Business behavior
- Introduction to macroeconomics
The theoretical lessons will be accompanied by exercises and the presentation of case studies in the agricultural, forestry and environmental sectors.
Examination methods: The exam will be written and organized in both open-ended and closed-ended questions where the student must demonstrate that she/he has acquired the theoretical knowledge with precise terminology and that she/he knows how to apply it in specific real cases. The examination will also concern three microeconomics exercises. Students who pass the written test successfully will be able to decide whether to request an oral integration. At the beginning of the course the students and the teacher can agree on one or, at most, two partial tests related to the theoretical part. Partial tests can be taken only by students who attend the course for at least 70% of the hours of frontal teaching.
