Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic Knowledge of chemistry, physics and biology
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide students with the tools to recognize, in rural areas, what are the main features of the environment and thus the student can recognize production potential of the main crops included, or insertable, in that context. Moreover students will be provided with skills of the main problems of agricultural systems
Examination methods: The exam consists of a series of open questions on the entire the course syllabus and exercises related to water, fertilizer and seeding rates
Assessment criteria: Skill of students will be evaluated based on the degree of knowledge of the theoretical principles and practical applications of the agricultural methods presented in the course
Course unit contents: 1st CFU climate variables and their relevance in determining the productivity of a crop

2nd CFU: The soil and its functions: formation, structure, properties, pest control.

3rd CFU: The plant nutrition: needs and interventions to improve the availability of water and nutrient in different types of soil and climate

4th CFU: Agronomy applied (notes). Farming in dry conditions. Farming systems of major food crops in different climatic environments.

5th CFU: Winter Cereals

6th CFU: Summer Cereals

7th CFU: Grain legumes; Oilseed crops, sugar crops

8th CFU: medical herbs, potato, Leaf vegetables, Tomato
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lessons and practical training held using slides and course material previously provided to students.
