Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of mathematics and physic
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed to raise understanding and provide technical and scientific bases for decision making in definition, selection and testing of best machines applied to agricultural operations.
The course focuses on different aspects of mechanics, with the aim of:
- understand types, characteristics and working principles of most important agricultural machine groups;
- understand advantages and problems associated with different technical and technological solutions;
- estimate the performance of agricultural machines, considering their specific applications.
Examination methods: The exam is divided into two parts:
- a written exam with exercises and questions
- an oral, to be held on the same day of the written part.
Assessment criteria: Evaluation will be based not only on student knowledge but also on his ability in using, correlating and putting together different elements (as machines or technologies) for the solution of exercises, problems and other issues of agricultural mechanics.
Course unit contents: The course covers the following topics:
- course introduction, basic disciplines, normative
- fluid machines: pumps, fans and thermo-fluid machines
- energy sources
- basic machines elements
- agricultural machines
- laboratory and excersises
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Teaching is based on lectures and on class exercises that involve individually the students.
Visits to industries or other interesting sites are normally scheduled within the course.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Course material is wholly covered by notes and slides from the lessons.
