Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Specific characteristics of the Module

Course unit contents: At the end of this course the students will be able to:
1. identify ethically relevant problems, since they will have get an adequate knowledge
a) about the cognitive, volitional and emotional aspects that influence the ethical life and the steps of moral development
b) about the basic concepts of professional and organizational ethics (rights and duties, autonomy, conscience, responsibility)
c) about the main fields of professional ethics (leadership ethics, the causes of unethical behavior, business ethics and corporate social responsibility)
2. make rational and motivated decisions, in the light of
a) the knowledge of the main four ethical theories that provide the standards in professional ethics (theory of principles, theory of results, theory of justice and theory of personal excellence)
b) the knowledge of the prejudices and "blind spots" that can hinder the ethically right decisions
3. to give their contribution to raise the ethical level of their workplace, since they will be trained to plan the best strategy to give voice to their ethical values;
4. To explain what are the essential features of trust and their ethical implications.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course includes thirty hours of in-class lectures and twelve hours of online activities. The in-class hours will be dedicated to lectures and class discussion, case-based teaching, small group activities and to some hours of flipped classroom. The hours of online activities will be dedicated to the evaluation of an ethical case according to the steps of ethical decision theory and to the analysis of a second case, in the light of the four theories which are more influential for professional ethics.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The program and bibliography of the course are identical for attending and non attending students.
