Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of modern European history (1789-1945).
Knowledge of German literature and of some of its canonical texts.
Good German language skills
Target skills and knowledge: Through the reading and interpretation of some Works of the German Romaticism the student will:
- Deepen their knowledge of German culture, especially of the age of the Goethezeit.
- Refine their language skills
- Refine their text analysis skills
Examination methods: During the last part of the course, each student will present a paper dealing with a topic or a single Work. A brief oral exam will follow on the scheduled dates.
This oral exam will verify:
- The ability to read and understand the texts
- The knowledge of the cultural context within which the german romanticism unfolds.
Assessment criteria: - Ability to understand and analyze the text
- Knowledge of the context.
- Ability to develop an autonomous research about one aspect of the novel
Course unit contents: The couse will be held by two professors, Marco Rispoli (42 hours) and Elisabetta Mengaldo (21 hours). It is therefore divided into two parts. On the one hand it will deal with the theoretical and narrative prose texts of German romanticism were addressed - the head of this section is Marco Rispoli.
On the other hand, the students will focus on their musical transposition as Lieder. This section, of 21 hours, will be held by Elisabetta Mengaldo.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The first part of the course includes lectures, during which students are invited to actively participate with personal contributions and observations.
In the last part of the course each student is required to present a paper about a theme or a single work. This research will therefore be the subject of in-class discussion.
