Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to provide a mapping of the Italian colonial exhibitions - a peculiar framework of the representation of “otherness” - focusing on the presence of paintings and sculptures and on the way they were set up. Verifying the statistical incidence of the works exposed, the main typologies of the subjects, the changes of taste, throughout the chronological axis of the Italian colonial experience, is crucial for better understanding whether and when art enters organically into this special propaganda machine and in what role.
