Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students must have attended Microeconomics
Target skills and knowledge: To apply economic theoretical model to real economic relationships;
To properly understand monetary and trade policies decisions;
To grasp the interdependence relationships occurring between domestic and external economic policies.
Examination methods: Exam is written (open questions)
Assessment criteria: Student must be able to apply theoretical reasonings to simple hypothetical case studies.
Course unit contents: Principles of international monetary economics: balance of payments; forex and exchanges rates; equilibrium in currency market; short and long term balance of payments adjustments; flexible and fixed exchange rate regimes; currency areas; economic policy coordination; financial markets; and international monetary regime evolution.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Weekly analysis of the main monetary choices.
