Syllabus
Prerequisites: B2 level of the Russian language
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to introduce the student to different theories of translation and the most important problems of translations studies, as well as provide him with the specific terminology and develop his capacity for choosing the best possible strategies of translation depending on the type of the text and its communicative functions.
The theoretical nature of the course is combined with a practical application of the acquired knowledge (Italian-Russian and Russian-Italian translation).
Examination methods: Written exam.
Assessment criteria: Italian University system (30/30) with the minimum of 18/30 to pass the exam.
The exam valutation includes both the theoretical part (awareness of the methods and strategies of translation) and the practical one (exactness and conformity of the Target Language text to the Source Language text).
Course unit contents: Historical development of theory and methods of translation; terminology of translation studies; strategies of translation analysis; translation units, scientific translation vs artistic translation; principal problems of translation; electronic and multimedial translation; transformations during translation (lexical, grammar, syntax; translating phraseology; style and registre in translation; the problem of possibility of translation; problems of Italian-Russian and Russian-Italian translation.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lectures (theory presentation) will be accompanied by necessary examples; laboratory translation activities are planned in order to facilitate the practical application of the studies material.
