Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basics of petrography, geochemistry, mineralogy
Target skills and knowledge: Basic concepts of igneous petrology based on thermodynamic, geochemical, major and trace element data; magmatism and geodynamics.
Examination methods: Written exam
Assessment criteria: the students competences will be verified through questions on the main arguments of the course, specific excersises, report on scientific journal articles.
Course unit contents: Thermodynamics applied to igneous processes. Geo-thermo-barometry. Magmatic plumbing systems. Closed and open-system differentiation. Mantle and crustal melting mechanism. Chemical geodunamics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Classes and laboratories, including 2 days field-work.
