Syllabus
Prerequisites: General knowledge on inorganic chemistry
Target skills and knowledge: capability to forecast the chemical properties of inorganic materials

capability to design new inorganic materials, new synthesis procedures, or treatments in order to obtain specific chemical and physical properties and behaviour. Particular attention devoted to the Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) and to the development of materials and devices highly sustainable from the economic and environmental point of view.

capability to investigate and evaluate the main problems related to the functional properties of inorganic materials and devices
Examination methods: Oral examination
Assessment criteria: It will be evaluated the capability to study and solve the problems related to the preparation and evaluation of inorganic materials and devices, always taking into consideration the economic and environmental sustainability.
Course unit contents: Objective of the course is the investigation of some aspects of the inorganic materials connected to their functional application.
Il will be attempted to relate functional aspect of materials and devices to the chemical, physical, structural, morphological properties of the materials.
The materials and devices are related to their possible use for a sustainable development: devices for the economically and environmentally sustainable energy storage and conversion; devices for energy saving; devices and materials for pollution abatement.
Oxide based materials to be used in solid oxide fuel cells and solid oxide electrolyzers; the most important properties (chemical and structural stability, permeability, conductiviy, ...) will be considered and related to their possible use as electrolytes, anodes and cathodes.
Sustainable reaction for the obtaining of fuels; fuels from wastes ...
carbon dioxide: from poison to resource
energy from sun: from photovoltaic to photocatalysis
layered materials for energy production, storage and transportantion.
Cromic materials for energy saving.
Pollution: from sensing to abatement
Redox reactions: active sites and functionalization of catalysts

In all cases all the aspects related to che chemical physical and structural properties will be considered in relation to the synthesis and to the functional properties.
